County Assembly Passes a Motion to Formulate Boreholes’ Management Policy

The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu has urged the County Government to prepare a Policy Framework that will guide the management of all public boreholes within the County. While moving the Motion, Hon. Ramadan Ali, Leader of Minority and MCA Kiplombe Ward said that the County Government of Uasin Gishu had set aside funds in the last financial year to be utilized in drilling at least borehole per ward.

Ali regretted that per the latest released statistics by Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA), the population in the County with reasonable access to water is just 42% although about 90% of the population access to water is within 2 km radius.

He noted that it is necessary for the County Government through the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources to come up with a policy that will ensure efficient supply of water from the said boreholes.

While contributing to the Motion, Hon. Francis Muya, MCA Langas Ward said that such a policy will not only help the current residents of the County but also even the next generation. He also noted that the policy will also be vital in putting in place the technical and management teams that will ensure efficiency of the projects.

Hon. Isaac Chirchir MCA Soy Ward hailed the mover of the motion which he termed as timely. Hon. Chirchir observed that in the past few years due to global warming the water table had gone lower hence the need for more sustainable management of the available resources. He added that the management boards under the new policy framework will help in avoidance of overburdening the host communities.

Uasin Gishu speaker Hon. Isaac Terer urged MCAs to use their Sectorial Committees to ensure that all resolutions of the County Assembly are implemented by the executive arm of County Government.
